Cell biology introduces the principles of life at the cellular level. This course will provide you with a basic and comprehensive understanding of structure and function of the cell, the functional unit of life. We will discuss following: 1. the basic structure and function of cells; 2. structural organisation, function and dynamics of organelles; 3. structure and function of cytoskeleton, 4. How cells sustain their own orderly life activities, including small molecule transport, intracellular transport, cell quality control, cell communication, cell cycle, cell growth and apoptosis, cell movement; 5. Cell-cell adhesion, cell-extracellular matrix interaction, and how cells are integrated into tissues. 6. Cellular dysfunction and human diseases; 7. Common experimental methods and classical experiments in cell biology to help understand the basic research methodology and rationales behind research designing. This course is a core undergraduate course in biology and it is also be suitable for students majoring in Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Medicine, or other related majors which require cell biology study.
