This course starts from the polarization of optical waves, and then introduces the fundamentals of liquid crystals, light propagation and scattering in anisotropic materials, theory of elastic deformation of liquid crystals, etc. With lab practice, students will learn the fabrication process, optoelectronic properties characterization and performance testing, hence better mastering the knowledge of liquid crystals.
