This course starts from the common electromagnetic motors in robot field, and then introduces pneumatic actuators, hydraulic drivers, piezoelectric motors, electrostatic actuators, shape memory alloys, ion-exchange polymer metal composite (IPMC) and dielectric elastomer, etc. The main contents include the basic structure, working principles, calculation methods of the key parameters, and design and selecting methods of actuators, etc. This course will also foster students’ academic writing and presentation capacity by guiding the students to practice novel actuation development.
