Lecture, 3 credits, 3hours per week. Pre-request: Engineering Fluid Mechanics (MAE207) or FluidMechanics (MAE303). Thiscourse analyses and solves a range of practical problems associated withaeroacoustics. Examples include modelling of sound waves propagation in freespace, at discontinuities and within pipes and resonators, and noise sourcesfrom jets, combustion, aerofoils, etc. and their image sources near surfacediscontinuities. The course also explores ways to reduce noise either at thesource or through acoustic damping along the propagation path.
