This course involves two weeks of field trips to the Emeishan Geology Practical Base (Sichuan Province). General purposes of the course include: (1) the classifications, characteristics and petrogenesis of different categories of igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks, (2) the complicated phenomenon of structural geology (folds, faults, and boundaries of different geological units, etc.) at different scales (regional, outcrop and hand-specimen, etc.), and their genetic link with the evolution of orogenic belts, (3) formation and evolution of the Yangtze block, and (4) the Emeishan volcanic landforms, volcanic geology, and related geodynamic settings.
