数字图像与视频无处不在，社交媒体（如微信视频和抖音）、网络直播、数字电视、网络视频、视频监控、智能手机、无线通信、机器人、自动驾驶、物联网，智能交通、智慧政务、智慧城市、智慧医疗、智慧商业、智慧工农业生产，都需要大量的使用数字图像和视频压缩和网络通信技术。该课程以《数字信号处理》、《通信原理》、《数字图像处理》等课程为基础，讲述图像与视频压缩通信的信息论基础理论、原理方法、系统设计、与国际标准。通过本课程的学习，使学生对图像视频压缩与网络通信技术有较深入的理解，为今后研究、工作、与实践打下良好的基础。该课程适合信息电子与电气工程与计算机高年级本科生、硕士和博士研究生。


Nowadays, digital images and videos arepervasive. Image/Video compression and network communication is the enablingtechnology for social media (such as wechat images/videos, Douyin / Tiktok), livevideo broadcasting, digital TV, online videos, security monitoring, smartphones, wireless communication, robots, autonomous driving, internet of things,intelligent transportation, digital government, smart cities, smart health,intelligent business, and smart agriculture and manufacturing. This course builds upon academic backgroundof digital signal processing, communication systems, and digital imageprocessing.  It covers the fundamental informationtheories, principles and methods, system design, and international standards.Through this course, students will gain in-depth understanding of image/videocompression and network communication, laying a solid foundation for subsequentstudies, research, and practice in this important technology area.

课程的前半部份主要是讲解墒（$entropy$）和比特率等信息论知识，后半部份则讲解JPEG编码和视频压缩编码。期末的project是自己从头实现一遍JPEG2000的编码的格式 （可参考 https://github.com/sparkcyf/SUSTech_EEE5347_Image-Video-Compression-and-Network-Communication ）。

课程有期中考试，但题目难度中等，可带cheating paper。
