This course teaches the basic concepts and mathematical realizations of finite element theory. Based on engineering application examples, this course teaches the skills of using commercial CAE software Abaqus to solve different types of engineering problems. The course consists of two parts: Part I focus on teaching the basic concepts and mathematical expressions of finite element theory, and Part II focus on teaching how to use Abaqus to simulate real engineering problems. After learning the two parts, student will build a solid theoretical foundation of understanding finite element method, and obtain the skills of using Abaqus to solve real engineering problems. Those students who have selected Computational Solid Mechanics (MAE310), Finite Element Method (MAE409), Finite Element Method (MA220-21), Finite Element Method---Theory and Practice (MAT7037) and any other Finite Element Method related courses are not allowed to select the course.
