In China, soil and groundwater contamination has been drawing more and more attention in recent 10 years. The related technical and management measures are rapid developing both in academic and industrial field. The interdisciplinary trainees with both science and engineering training background are eagerly needed. As the soil and groundwater are the fundamental environmental elements closely related to human society, this course could be a significant contribution to the discipline construction of School of Environmental Science and Engineering. The objective of this course is to deliver graduate students who already master the basis of environmental contamination a comprehensive theoretical framework and engineering practices about the entire procedure of soil and groundwater contamination control and remediation. The contents of the class will cover the field investigation at contaminated sites, risk assessment, remediation and risk control strategy development, engineering design, project implementation, and engineering project management, along with the case studies in each stages. As the extension of the class, two field trips and discussion classes will be arranged to help students get better understanding to the history, policies, remediation industry, development trend, and so on.
