This course offers a foundationalintroduction to design through action and a preparation for design studies atthe School of Design. The course establishes design as an activity in a rangeof contexts, moving beyond problem-solving to opportunity-seeking. Through aseries of lectures, homework assignments, and tutorials, the course introducesa set of activities by which designers commonly translate creative opportunitiesto quality of life and economic value. Students are assessed based on thequality of their responses to weekly assignments, which build up to a finalactivity portfolio, as well as on their attendance and active participation. Thiscourse requires students to participate actively in weekly creative assignmentsand to engage actively in class discussions and tutorials.Skills: creative design;design communication; critical thinking
