This course enablesstudents to understand sound and other senses from both perspectives ofacademic research and design practice. The course addresses the concepts ofsound, music, noise and silence, their frontier research, and their practice assound design. It cultivates students’ listening skills, as well as theirabilities to experience and reflect on the world by engaging multiple senses.Students will learn to describe sensory experiences using academic language andnarrating stories through senses. Students are introduced to key theories andmethods of sound and senses and how these bodies of knowledge may inform designpractice. Students are invited to design sound related projects to express theirinsights. As part of their design processes, students will experiment with themateriality of sound and explore diverse relationships between sound andsenses.
