This course will lecture the reactive transportof chemicals, particles, and microorganisms in environmental systems, and will lecturegeochemical and biogeochemical reactions, reaction kinetics, and mass transferand transport processes that are the integral parts of reactive transport. Specificallythe course will discuss how to construct the stoichiometry and rate laws ofvarious geochemical and biogeochemical reactions, derive the expressions ofmass transfer and transport equations and their coupling with reactions andkinetics, construct global rate expressions for biogeochemical cycling ofelements, and establish multispecies and multi-scale reactive transportequations of chemicals, particles, and microorganisms, as well as theirapplications in homogeneous, heterogeneous, and porous media systems includingnatural environments (such as river, lake, groundwater, soil and sediments, andatmosphere) and engineering systems (such as water treatments, soil andgroundwater remediation, and river ecosystem restoration)。The goal of this course is for students to understand the differentparts in reactive transport processes, their mechanisms, and mathematicalexpressions, master skills to derive and simplify reactive transport processesand equations for specific applications.
