“Vocal music and instrumental music” are two major forms of musical expression. In Appreciation of Chinese Instrumental Music Works, “Chinese Instrumental Music Works” refer to two categories: The first is Chinese traditional instrumental music works including four types (namely string-pulling, plucking, blowing and percussion instruments) and relevant instrumental concert performances (such as south Yangzi string and pipe ensemble and Cantonese music); the second is the world-known works created by Chinese composers and performed by western musical instruments, such as violin concerto The Butterfly Lovers and piano concerto The Yellow River.“Chinese music”, which has lasted for thousands of years, is an important part of Chinese traditional culture. Especially after being sorted out and integrated into modern techniques, it has formed a variety of types and genres. It has its independent musical aesthetic thoughts as well as colorful expressions and musical theory writings. It is of significant learning and research values in the general aesthetic education scope and the discussion of “art and science”.This course enables students to learn about instrument structures, performance methods, representative repertoires, musical characteristics and performance secrets of the representative instruments in the four categories of Chinese national instruments (string-pulling, plucking, blowing and percussion). On this basis, students further appreciate the representative concerts, ensembles, concertos and symphonic works as well as the works performed by western instruments based on Chinese ancient music and national instrumental music or with profound and typical Chinese folk music style and characteristics. Then, they will gradually explore the works, feelings and even culture from a single music sound combination and finally understand the roles of music aesthetic education at a higher level.
