Basedon real world cases, especially cases during COVID-19 pandemic including thedevelopment of antibody therapy and RNA vaccines, this course will introducerecent innovations in drug development, the actual work flow of drug discoveryand production, the main stages of drug development from initiation of researchto commercialization.Thiscourse aims to provide undergraduate students from various majors the basicconcepts, typical examples, and milestone achievements of drug development, sothat the students can obtain an overview of the real-world practice of the drugdevelopment industry, and access to the firsthand experience of the top peoplein the field. A guided tour will be offered by the course instructor at theR&D department of drug development. The students will visit and experiencethe frontline of drug development.Thestudents will be exposed to an overview of the pharmaceutical industry, thecutting-edge concepts, overall process of drug development from R&D tocommercialization, innovative technologies, and practical challenges ofdeveloping a new medicine. The students will also understand how advances inbiomedicine revolutionize drug development, therapy options, and diseaseprevention and treatment.
