Major core lecture, 3 credits, 3 hours per week. Pre-requisites: Structural Mechanics I. This course provides students with the basic knowledge and understanding in structural design of both reinforced concrete and steel structures for ocean engineering. The design philosophy, design loads, calculation of sectional capacity, structural responses, etc. of reinforced concrete and steel structures will be the focus. At the end of this course, students should be able to understand the design loads and basic design procedure for designing simple sections using reinforced concrete and steel.
