This course focuses on the generally recognized works of 15 most influential writers in the history of foreign literature, draws on cutting-edge research findings in academia and unfolds to students those literary and cultural classics as well. It also pores over intellectual profundity and poetic characteristics of the selected works and explores their relationship with the writers and a certain historical period in the hope of improving students’ command of the literary laws concerning how literature perceives and represents the world and its inhabitants and helping students to better comprehend Chinese culture and literature by having them examine literary concepts and aesthetic styles of foreign literary classics.
