This course introduces the fundamental concepts and methods of systemidentification and adaptive control. Its topics include the basic concepts ofsystem identification, least squares method, system identification methods, introductionto adaptive control, model reference adaptive control, self-tuning control, etc. Those system identification and adaptive control methods are also connectedwith applications in the areas of electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and aerospacesystems.Thecourse also makes students have the following:1)The ability to be familiar with various models oflinear dynamical systems; 2) The ability to identifysystem parameters using least squares methods, Kalmanfilter, neural networks and other identification methods; 3) The ability to design the controller of a dynamicalsystem employing various adaptive control strategies; 4) The good understanding on the analysis and designof model reference adaptive control systems and self-tuning control systems; 5) The ability to demonstrate asystematic understanding of the analysis and design principles of system identificationand adaptive control, and show critical judgement in developing solutions to arange of system identification and adaptive control problems.
