Continuum mechanics dealswith the analysis of the kinematics and the mechanical behavior of materialsthat can be modeled as a continuous mass. This is an important course inGeophysics study because most earth’s materials can beconsidered as a continuous material. Also, the research on earth resources,natural hazards as well as a lot of geophysical phenomena relies on theunderstanding of the mechanical behavior of continuum. Thiscourse aims to teach the fundamental theory of continuum mechanics and preparestudents for study of the major core courses of ESS.
