This course aims to introduce the basic concepts and principles of a variety of materials applied in energy harvesting, conversion and storage, such as solar cells, fuel cells, and batteries. It covers the basic properties, performance related factors, preparation methods, and application areas of energy materials The course will also discuss the state-of-art research and development of new energy materials, as well as the major challenges facing energy materials and new perspectives of development related to new energy materials. The first part of this course will introduce the materials on energy harvesting systems such as solar cells, photosynthesis and biofuels. The second part will mainly deal with hydrogen energy and fuel cells, electrochemical energy storage systems such as batteries and super capacitors.
