This course delivers the fundamentals of hydrodynamics in offshore engineering and the basic analysis methodfor fluid flow. It includes the following contents: fluid properties, hydrostatics, description of a flow, governing equation of fluid motion, wave theory, wave travelling in the ocean, wave loads on offshore structures, motion of a floating body in waves, etc. It will cover the basic design approach for offshore structures with a focus on the ocean environment (wave, current and wind) and the environmental loads. The course will equip the students with general knowledge in basic fluid mechanics, principles of design of offshore structures. The students are expected to be able to explain motions of fluid flow, understand phenomena relevant to ocean waves, calculate environmental loads and make general design for offshore structures. It lays a foundation for the students to work and study in the industry of ocean engineering and coastal engineering.
