This course starts from the fundamental wave and quantum properties of light, and then uses these properties to develop the concepts of population inversion, gain, saturation intensity, laser operation above threshold, excitation and pumping and cavities. It then introduces the operation principle of three and four energy level system and the typical resonator cavities will be discussed.
