This course provideslanguage training of Mandarin Chinese for postgraduate first-stage second/foreignlanguage learners. The course starts from the Chinese phonetics: initials andfinals, initial-final combinations, tones and modulations, based on whichChinese radicals and characters are introduced. Then students learn new words, sentencepatterns and conversation under the guidance of grammar structure. Teachers ensurethat the Chinese language is acquired in simulated dialogues with differentcontexts. The emphasis of the course is placed on developing students’ integratedlanguage skills. The objectiveof the course is to master 300 words and to reach HSK level 2 by the end of thecourse.
