From the perspective of sociology, this coursetakes the curriculum as the anchor to analyze the power relationship andinequality implied in the conventional knowledge transfer and curriculum. Thecourse includes an overview of curriculum sociology research, a review ofcontemporary Western sociology of curriculum, the influence of education andsociety on curriculum, different propositions on “curriculum” withfunctionalist paradigm, interpretive paradigm, Neo-Marxist paradigm andstructuralist paradigm. It also shows the roles, positioning and power betweenteachers and students in the curriculum. The last part contains sociologicalanalysis of curriculum content, structure, teaching, and evaluation. Thiscourse helps students to understand the influence of the curriculum on them,the influential mechanism, and its practice. It is conducive to developstudents’ critical thinking and interdisciplinary thinking, helping themprepare for potential scientific and technological innovation in the future.
