Theory course, 2 credits. The Arab world consists of 22 countries located in West Asia and North Africa, covering a total area of more than 13 million square kilometers and a population of more than 400 million. Arab culture is one of the four major cultural systems proposed by Professor Ji Xianlin; it has distinctive features in various aspects such as language, literature, history, religion, philosophy, art and natural science. This course is divided into fifteen lectures plus a conclusion, covering topics ranging from the history of pre-Islamic Arab Peninsula, the rapid expansion of the Arab Empire, the influence of the Arab culture in the Golden Age, and the awakening of the Arabs who fought against colonial oppression in modern times. In particular, the course uses 15 pieces of representative artifacts/literary works/architectures, providing the students with a micro understanding of the Arab national spirit and the similarities and differences of between Arab and Chinese cultures.
