Visual culture of the Islamic world is an important part of the study ofglobal art history. This course follows a chronological order and is dividedinto sixteen topics such as religious architecture, secular architecture,calligraphy, painting, and decoration, by drawing examples taken from the Arabworld, Iran, Turkey, India, etc. After taking this course, students areexpected to form an unbiased general understanding of the Islamic culture, andcompare Chinese art and architecture from the aspects such as garden design,pottery, fabrics and orientalist painting.
