SUSTech English II (SE II) is the second course in the Center for Language Education core curriculum. It builds upon the skills introduced in SUSTech English I or further develops skills which students already have. The skills targeted in SUSTech English II will be needed in future courses. The course not only introduces the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills for fluent English communication, but also includes cross-cultural skills and language study skills to assist students to have a success in their learning of the content courses instructed in English language. It aims to help students construct their English language knowledge and skills under the guidance of their English teachers, and more importantly through their practice both in class and after class. By the end of the course, their English proficiency should be able to reach the upper intermediate level (CEFR B2/IELTS 5-6/TOEFL 87-100). The writing and presentation included in the assessment aim to develop students’ ability to analyze, criticize, and express ideas concisely in English. The course introduces the essay writing skills at the college level. Students are expected to demonstrate their ability to plan, organize and express ideas effectively and in grammatically correct sentences. In the process of preparing and practicing their presentation, student’s effective presentation skills will be developed and their cross-cultural competence can be boosted.

和前面几条评论的类似,Albert确实是中学老师类型的比较严格的老师,很细心负责,教学踏实到位有自己的教育理念,想学东西就来选这个老师。

Albert的课堂非常严格,很注重规则,犯错的时候没有试错机会,但一般会提前把规则讲明,明知故犯或者没听到就是你的问题了。但同时非常有趣,无论是分享自己的趣事,各种类型的幽默还有调侃学生之类的。大多时候调侃或者开学生玩笑都能接受,不过偶尔会有点冒犯(文化差异吧,国人比较保守。说到课堂氛围轻松与否,只能说大部分时间是轻松的,因为前文说了很注重规则,对课堂的把控有点强,有些时候心情不好的时候可能比较压抑(课堂的氛围啊节奏啊全是他在c,有些时候嘛…意会吧

作业方面不是很清楚,因为上学期上的Samuel的课(和Al是好朋友),Sam的作业似乎也有点多,但是和Al相比感觉差不多?没上过其他老师的课。不过Al的作业多其实是分配到每天,养成习惯之类的。这也是为什么说想学到东西来选他,硬性要求你提高英语水平嘛。就算没分配到每天,每周至少也会有一次提交作业,所以每周完成一次至少也能提升一点点hhhhh。

给分不知道。写的时候分还没出。不过几个小任务的分都比较严格的按给分标准执行,没有有些老师比较水的评分态度。不过总体来说都能那90-95百分比的分吧。

听和说其实是这门课收获最多的。每节课课前会有一个small talk,和同学讨论一些投影到白板上的问题,一般都是艺术或者生活,大概进行3-4轮。每两周或者一周会有一次视频作业,录一个topic的口语练习,大概一分多钟的样子,这个对仪态之类的都挺有帮助的。除了口语和听力的提升,一学期下来全班同学都比较熟悉,相比有些班到最后只认识几个小组同学,也算一个好处。

总结一下,想在听说方面真的有长进的,想切实多一些朋友,感受比较有亲情的课堂氛围的,选Al。但是如果想无脑GPA高,建议换。在别的老师那里相同努力能换得更高的绩点。

Al挺严格的,上课不允许玩手机,在教室里不准说中文,且只能用纸质教材。但是老师上课很有意思,经常开玩笑,虽然我觉得有些玩笑有点说不上来的奇怪(?

Al的课最大的特点应该就是能锻炼你的口语。上课前会有一个small talk的环节,逼你和不同的同学交流。他还要求大家每节课坐在不同的位置,让你和不同的同学讨论。这样下来两三个星期班里的同学其实已经差不多都认识了,能交到很多新朋友。

作业方面,每星期写一篇listening journal和reading journal,看一点英文书。其实我觉得作业量还好,可能是因为SEI的作业也很多,已经习惯了(

在我看来Al给分还是挺好的,pre给了99/100,期中的integrated writing给了满分,但是现在总评还没出来,估计也不会太差。

AL的课不需要多少积分(1分进)

上课风格:传统,严格得像高中老师,不让玩手机,不让用中文说话。

作业:超多,journal,video,巴拉巴拉一大堆,其实我感觉不太有用,花的时间直逼高数

收获:超多,他真的是在为学生的学业考虑的老师(虽然不为你考虑)。他的课很有特点,教了很多communication strategy,会让大家交谈的非常频繁,可以帮你在大一认识很多新朋友,提升口语,一个学期我从开不了口,变成能用英语与外国人进行简单交谈

人还挺有趣的,不过有时有时死板变态,而且偶尔你会感觉到他潜在的白人至上主义()

给分:还不错啦,我得A,没有传说的那么低,本来还以为他只会给我B之类的。上学期传言中给分好的adam只给了A减

有优点有缺点,考虑清楚再选,不过我很满意,评他10分

Al上课会比较严,不让说中文也不给玩手机,但是人很有意思。他会强迫你跟别人交流,对社恐十分的不友好。但是强迫交流过了一两周整个班基本上就都认识了,这时候反而班里氛围就会很好。上他的课我认为学到最多的还是口语(毕竟被逼着聊天😭)。给分的话中规中矩,作业也会留的有点多,建议想练习口语的同学选Al,或者找个好玩的老师。想水过拿高分的话Al不行。
